The Christchurch Earthquake Appeal has received an anonymous donation of $5 million, which is the largest individual donation yet.
The money will be for the hard-hit eastern suburbs and help fund projects for school children in the area. It's a fantastic move by a wise philanthropist, made even more poignant by the humble request to remain anonymous.

The anonymous donation has boosted the earthquake appeal fund to $83m. Details of where the money is going to be spent are to be released next week. On behalf of all those this most generous donation will help, I thank the anonymous donor. Well done."The money would help fund projects for school children in the worst affected eastern suburbs. That will include indoor sports, safe indoor play and homework areas, Wi-Fi spaces, and a range of supervised activities. We are immensely grateful to this donor, as well as all those who have donated anonymously, who have been moved by the challenges facing Christchurch and its children, and by the resilience and strength shown in the city, and offered to help," Weldon said.
